Ghost Bulk Uploader Supertip

Usually, your G.ho.st VC is a “self-contained” virtual computer running in the browser which has the same content wherever you are in the world. But sometimes you will need to move files from the physical computer you are on (called the “local” computer) to G.ho.st, and from to G.ho.st to your local computer.

Your G.ho.st VC only allows you to upload and download individual files. However, the G.ho.st Bulk Uploader lets you drag-and-drop entire folders and hierarchies of folders from your local computer to your G.ho.st Drive (where they are saved by G.ho.st using Amazon.com’s data center), and vice versa.

In particular, the G.ho.st Bulk Uploader is the easiest way for you to move your documents, music or photos to G.ho.st when you first start using G.ho.st. This is so your files will be more secure and available wherever you are. The G.ho.st G.ho.st Bulk Uploader is also the easiest way to move files from a camera, MP3 player, disk-on-key, or other device to G.ho.st. (In these cases, the device must first be recognized by the local computer and shown in Windows, such as in the D:, E: or F: drive before the G.ho.st Bulk Uploader will recognize them.)

The speed of the file transfer depends on your Internet connection. In many homes, the uplink (from your local computer to G.ho.st) is much slower than the downlink (from G.ho.st to your local computer) so you need to be a little patient.

Starting the G.ho.st Bulk Uploader

The G.ho.st Bulk Uploader uses a technology called Java to let you view your local hard drive. Many browsers already have Java, but if your browser doesn't, you can download it from https://www.java.com/getjava. You will need to give permission for your browser to run the G.ho.st Bulk Uploader, so just press the OK button when you get a dialog such as "Certain workplaces may block the installation or running of Java–in that case you will not be able to run Java".

What do you see?
Your local computer drives and the G.ho.st Drive are displayed side-by-side in the same window to make it easy for you to move files from one drive to the other. The lower panel of the G.ho.st Bulk Uploader window will give you a detailed description of each task upload or download task you request. Here you can keep track of the files you are transferring, their direction, size, and progress. You can also see how many files have completed the transfer and how many are waiting in the queue.
